Read 12 hours this winter to earn sweet prizes at the library! Prizes are earned upon signing up, after reading 4 hours, after reading 8 hours, and finally after reading 12 hours. This year for the grand prizes, we will be hiding Golden Tickets in four select third prizes, just like a certain literary chocolatier.

Read for a Lifetime is a statewide reading program from the Illinois Center for the Book for high school students. This initiative promotes the enjoyment of reading by encouraging students to read both classic and contemporary literature, and rewards them for their efforts. By participating in the program, students develop a love of books and reading that will last a lifetime. There are 25 new books on the Read for a Lifetime list each school year.

Students will receive certificates from the Illinois Secretary of State if they read 4 books from the list during the 2022/23 school year. SPECIAL certificates will be sent to students who read all 25 books within the 2022/23 school year. Any Algonquin Library teens who read all 25 books will receive a unique Read for a Lifetime drawstring backpack at the adult services reference desk.
