It's National Library Shelfie Day: What do your bookshelves look like?
You know what a selfie is, but have you heard of a shelfie? Held on the 4th Wednesday of January since 2014, Library Shelfie Day was created by the New York Public Library. On this day, book lovers share selfies of themselves in front of library shelves and in front of shelves of their personal book collections. These photos are known as "shelfies" and are usually shared on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #LibraryShelfie.
A holiday that is dedicated to highlighting one’s love for books? What a novel idea! You can take a photo of your bookshelves, or you and your bookshelves, or a library's bookshelves, or you and a library's bookshelves – you get the idea – and post it on social media with #LibraryShelfie (and post it to our AAPLD Teen Blog!). It's a fun way to give a shout-out to your beloved books and show your literary love. And when you’re done taking pictures, check out a book from the library! See some of our New Teen Books below!
Library Shelfie Day is also a great way to promote our beloved libraries, one of the best ways to share and promote reading (and so many other valuable resources and skills). So take some photos, tag them with #LibraryShelfie, and share them on social media (like this blog!).
