Review: Queen of Hearts

Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes is a beautiful story about a princess just trying to find herself. She’s balancing her royal duties, the pressure of being perfect in the eyes of her father, the King of Hearts, and trying to be herself amidst the royal court. It’s so well written, making it feel as if you could feel what she is going through. She’squeenofhearts struggling with the way she looks along with being never good enough for her father and others in her life. Many readers may relate to this as they know what she’s going through and can understand why she makes the choices she does throughout the story. Her struggles are portrayed so well throughout the novel and show how she’s trying to find herself. Colleen Oakes makes you understand why she’s the iconic Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. This is the story about the Queen of Hearts before Alice comes to Wonderland. It makes you understand she wasn’t always cruel and heartless. The novel, Queen of Hearts is a great new book that you should read if you love fantasy: it will take your breath away.
